The Japanese Film Festival (JFF) returns in 2024, running from 12th September to 20th October 2024 at selected GSC cinemas across Malaysia. Celebrating its 20th anniversary, this year’s JFF showcases a diverse lineup of over 13 films, spanning genres like drama, sci-fi, romance, thriller, and animation. One of the highlights for JFF this year, is the much anticipated screening of Godzilla Minus One, which won the 2023 Academy Award for Best Visual Effects. To mark the 70th anniversary of Godzilla, JFF 2024 will also host a Godzilla Marathon on the 14th and 21st September in Klang Valley and Penang, featuring Godzilla Minus One and the original Godzilla directed by HONDA Ishiro, which will be screened in it’s original black and white theatrical presentation.
For anime-goers, check out the iconic 1988 Akira by OTOMO Katsuhiro and Sand Land by the late TORIYAMA Akira, the same author who brought us Dragon Ball. The festival also features compelling new releases such as Matched (2024) and All the Long Nights (2024) by MIYAKE Sho, who made an appearance at last year’s JFF. Also not to be missed as one of the JFF offerings this year, GSC International Screens presents A Samurai in Time which was recently released in Japan, and won the Gold Audience Award at the 2024 Fantasia Film Festival.
