Crimes of the Future

The Goggler Podcast #236: Crimes of the Future

Dept. of Jibbers, Jabbers, and Yackety-Yaks

Today, on the Goggler Podcast, Bahir and Uma watch and review David Cronenberg’s brand new dystopian sci-fi fantasy, Crimes of the Future. How well does the master’s long awaited return to body horror hold up against his best work? Does the movie deserve the almost seven minute standing ovation that it received at Cannes? Is this movie a good entry point into the weird and wonderful world of David Cronenberg?

Crimes of the Future is now streaming on MUBI.

As the human species adapts to a synthetic environment, the body undergoes new transformations and mutations. Accompanied by his partner, celebrity performance artist Saul Tenser showcases the metamorphosis of his organs. Meanwhile, a mysterious group tries to use Saul’s notoriety to shed light on the next phase of human evolution.

Crimes of the Future was directed by David Cronenberg and stars Viggo Mortensen, Léa Seydoux, Kristen Stewart, and Scott Speedman.
