What would you do if a drugstore machine told you that you were supposed to be something, or someone, completely different than who you are now? Would you believe an anonymous piece of paper telling you to be a dancer, or a magician, or a superstar?
In this Goggler Exclusive, we speak to David West Read, the creator of The Big Door Prize, about the way the series treats its sci-fi elements and why he made certain changes to the existing material.
We also got the chance to speak to the stars of The Big Door Prize, Chris O’Dowd and Gabrielle Dennis. You can watch that here.
Based on M.O. Walsh’s novel of the same name, The Big Door Prize tells the story of a small town that is forever changed when a mysterious machine appears in the general store, promising to reveal each resident’s true life potential. Dusty Hubbard, a seemingly content, cheerful family man and high school teacher, watches everyone around him reevaluate their life choices and ambitions — based on the machine’s printouts — and is forced to question whether he is truly as happy as he once thought. While he remains skeptical of the machine, his wife, Cass, indulges in the dream that there’s something bigger out there for her.
The Big Door Prize was created by David West Read and stars Chris O’Dowd, Gabrielle Dennis, Ally Maki, Josh Segarra, Damon Gupton, Crystal Fox, Djouliet Amara, and Sammy Fourlas.
