Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks, and producer Gary Goetzman finally complete their epic World War II trilogy with the upcoming release of Masters of the Air, a nine episode limited series that follows the adventures of the 100th Bomb Group, a B-17 Flying Fortress unit in the Eighth Air Force. Featuring a cast that includes Austin Butler, Callum Turner, Barry Keoghan, and Ncuti Gatwa, the series tells the story of the Bloody Hundredth, and their exploits in the fight against Nazi Germany.
In this Goggler Exclusive, we spoke to legendary Hollywood producer Gary Goetzman about making the Apple TV Plus series, pulling together this (now) star studded cast, and if 2020’s Greyhound will finally get that sequel.

Based on Donald L. Miller’s book of the same name, and scripted by John Orloff, Masters of the Air follows the men of the 100th Bomb Group (the “Bloody Hundredth”) as they conduct perilous bombing raids over Nazi Germany and grapple with the frigid conditions, lack of oxygen and sheer terror of combat conducted at 25,000 feet in the air. Portraying the psychological and emotional price paid by these young men as they helped destroy the horror of Hitler’s Third Reich, is at the heart of “Masters of the Air.” Some were shot down and captured; some were wounded or killed. And some were lucky enough to make it home. Regardless of individual fate, a toll was exacted on them all.
Masters of the Air is executive produced by Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks, and Gary Goetzman. Anna Boden, Ryan Fleck, Cary Joji Fukunaga, Dee Rees and Tim Van Patten serve as directors. The series stars Austin Butler, Callum Turner, Anthony Boyle, Barry Keoghan, Nikolai Kinski, Stephen Campbell Moore, Sawyer Spielberg, Isabel May, and Ncuti Gatwa.
