It’s been four years since John Luther was last on our screens, and Idris Elba is now back as the titular character in Netflix’s feature film continuation. In Luther: The Fallen Sun, John Luther has to take on a killer from his past, and maybe settle some old scores along the way. In this Goggler exclusive, we spoke to writer Neil Cross and director Jamie Payne about the continuation of the Luther story, its future, and that third act set piece.

Don’t forget to check out our interview with Andy Serkis here.

In Luther: The Fallen Sun — an epic continuation of the award-winning television saga reimagined for film — a gruesome serial killer is terrorizing London while brilliant but disgraced detective John Luther sits behind bars. Haunted by his failure to capture the cyber psychopath who now taunts him, Luther decides to break out of prison to finish the job by any means necessary.

The film was written by Neil Cross, directed by Jaime Paine, and stars Idris Elba, Cynthia Erivo, Andy Serkis, and Dermot Crowley, who returns as Martin Schenk.

Luther: The Fallen Sun is now streaming on Netflix.
