It’s been seven years since War for the Planet of the Apes, and we’re going back to the Planet of the Apes in a new story that’s set generations after Caesar’s rise and eventual death. In this Goggler exclusive, we sat down with Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes director, Wes Ball, to talk about how he found his way into the movie, choosing to set his story in the far future, the potential for time travel, and the strength of the Planet of the Apes franchise.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is now showing in Malaysian cinemas.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is set several generations in the future following Caesar’s reign, in which apes are the dominant species living harmoniously and humans have been reduced to living in the shadows. As a new tyrannical ape leader builds his empire, one young ape undertakes a harrowing journey that will cause him to question all that he has known about the past and to make choices that will define a future for apes and humans alike. The movie was directed by Wes Ball and stars Owen Teague, Freya Allan, Kevin Durand, Peter Macon, and William H. Macy.
