We recently had the chance to sit down and speak to writer/director Leigh Janiak, the brains behind Netflix’s Fear Street trilogy, about what it was like shooting three distinctly different horror movies back to back, the trilogy’s homages and references, and one somewhat surprising film inspiration.
In 1994, a group of teenagers discover that the terrifying events that have haunted their town for generations may all be connected — and that they may be the next targets. Based on R.L. Stine’s best selling horror series, the trilogy follows the nightmare through Shadyside’s sinister history. Fear Street Part 1: 1994, the first of the Fear Street trilogy, was directed by Leigh Janiak, and stars Kiana Madeira, Olivia Welch and Benjamin Flores Jr., Gillian Jacobs, Ashley Zukerman, Darrell Britt-Gibson, and Maya Hawke. Fear Street Part 2: 1978 drops on Netflix on July 9, followed by Fear Street Part 3: 1666 on July 16.
