When Marvel Studios’ Hawkeye was released at the end of 2021, we were introduced to Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop, reintroduced to Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin, and met Alaqua Cox as the deaf, amputee leader of the tracksuit mafia, Maya Lopez. Three years later, we’re catching up with Maya Lopez in Echo, her very own grittier, more violent, and bloody miniseries. In this Goggler exclusive, we sat down with Echo director Sydney Freeland and spoke to her about crafting the series’ look and feel, her use of silence, and creating sympathy for The Kingpin.

All five episodes of Echo drop on Disney Plus Hotstar on Tuesday, January 9.

Marvel Studios presents Echo, spotlighting Maya Lopez as she is pursued by Wilson Fisk’s criminal empire. When the journey brings her home, she must confront her own family and legacy.

Echo was created by Marion Dayre and directed by Sydney Freeland and Catriona McKenzie. Ther series stars Alaqua Cox, Chaske Spencer, Graham Greene, Tantoo Cardinal, Devery Jacobs, Zahn McClarnon, Cody Lightning, Charlie Cox, and Vincent D’Onofrio.
