In Sony Pictures’ The Pope’s ExorcistAcademy Award winner Russell Crowe stars as Father Gabriele Amorth, who was the actual, honest-to-God, Chief Exorcist of the Vatican, who claimed to have performed tens of thousands of exorcisms throughout his life. In this fictionalized account of his “adventures,” we see Father Amorth take on both a vicious demon, and a centuries-old conspiracy that the Vatican has tried to keep buried. The Pope’s Exorcist is now showing in Malaysian cinemas.

Inspired by the actual files of Father Gabriele Amorth, Chief Exorcist of the Vatican, the movie follows Amorth as he investigates a young boy’s terrifying possession and ends up uncovering a centuries-old conspiracy the Vatican has desperately tried to keep hidden.

The Pope’s Exorcist was directed by Julius Avery and stars Russell Crowe, Daniel Zovatto, Alex Essoe, and Franco Nero. The movie is loosely based on the books An Exorcist Tells His Story and An Exorcist: More Stories, by Father Gabriele Amorth.
