There’s no doubt about it, Sam Greenfield (Eva Noblezada) is the unluckiest person in the world. Whether it’s losing her keys down a manhole or getting a flat tire on her bike on the first day of a new job, bad luck seems to follow her wherever she goes. But even though things never go her way, she’s an optimistic and determined 18-year-old who cares more about others than herself. In fact, she’s desperate for her young friend Hazel (Adelynn Spoon) to have her own dose of good luck – to help her find the “forever family” Sam never did when she was growing up in the foster care system. So, when Sam finds, and then loses, a lucky penny that seems to have come from an enigmatic, talking black cat named Bob (Simon Pegg), she chases after the elusive feline to get another one for Hazel… and when he tries to evade her by leaping into a mysterious portal that opens in the street, she jumps in after him! It’s a long, turbulent plunge into the never-before-seen Land of Luck, a beautiful and extraordinary place where luck is made. Here, there’s nary a mishap; in fact, everything works like clockwork even as the luck they make is randomly distributed to the human world… but as Sam soon discovers, it’s a place no person from Earth is ever supposed to see.
Luck was directed by Peggy Holmes, and also stars Jane Fonda, Whoopi Goldberg, Colin O’Donoghue, Flula Borg, John Ratzenberger, and Lil Rel Howery.
