So we here at Goggler watch a lot of Netflix. Like A LOT a lot. Being such streaming connoisseurs, we’ve had a few thoughts on features that we wish Netflix would add to their service. This list is by no means exhaustive, or thorough, but just a few ideas we feel could make the whole Netflix experience a little bit better.
1. Mark Unwatched
Look, we’ve all cheated on our partner with our Netflix watch list. I mean, it’s not my fault that she made plans to go out on a Friday night with friends like some haut monde socialite. So you put on that new show The Witcher. Just to make sure it’s a “good one”. And then before you know it, you’re 4 episodes deep, and you hear the keys jangle in the door. A “Mark Unwatched” option, where it looks like you’ve never even clicked on the episode could save your life. Or at least your relationship.
Pro Tip: Until Netflix actually implements this, rewinding the episode(s) all the way back to 0:00 would achieve the same result.
2. Do Not Show
Yes, I may have watched a couple episodes of Singapore Social (IT WAS FOR WORK!) that one time, but no, I really do not want to continue watching the rest of the series. A “Do Not Show” option for specific titles would be great. And yes I know there is the “thumbs down” but all that does is tell the algorithm to remove other shows “like it” from my recommendations. Which isn’t what I want, because I’d definitely want to see what a Thailand Social or Malaysia Social is like when they finally make those.
3. Show All
According to the website Finder.com, there are currently 1,511 different show titles in the Netflix library for Malaysia (the multiple seasons of a show, counts as 1 title entry). With that many available titles, it would be great to have a feature where the entire library is on show, and not just be dictated by genres, categories or algorithms (nothing against the algorithm though; it gave me Money Heist and Most Beautiful Thing so I’m forever in its debt). We know that Netflix has “hidden” categories but again, a feature where all the available titles are listed would be great.
4. Leaving Soon
A “Leaving Soon” category would also be a godsend. We know that titles disappear from time to time. We get it. Contracts and Disney+ means that Netflix won’t have the rights to show Star Wars: The Last Jedi forever. But please, for the love of all that is holy, let us know when something is about to go. Netflix already has a “Latest” on the website, and a “Coming Soon” on the app (What’s up with that by the way? Why can’t I see both on both my devices?), a “Leaving Soon” feature would be appreciated. Just a heads-up would be great. Because I’d really like to know how much longer I’d have to ignore Solo: A Star Wars Story.
