The Goggler Podcast #90: Vivo

Dept. of Jibbers, Jabbers, and Yackety-Yaks

This week, on The Goggler Podcast, Iain, Bahir, and Uma watch and review two new Netflix releases, the documentary Myth & Mogul: John DeLorean, and the animated feature, Vivo.

[00:04:41] Review: Myth & Mogul: John DeLorean

Myth & Mogul: John DeLorean is a 3-part docuseries that examines DeLorean’s larger-than-life story, from his time as a somewhat unknown engineer at General Motors to the decade he broke from his corporate life to design his own fuel-efficient sports car.

[00:31:40] Review: Vivo

Vivo follows a one-of-kind kinkajou (Lin-Manuel Miranda), who spends his days playing music to the crowds in a lovely square with his beloved owner Andreś (Juan de Marcos). Though they may not speak the same language, Vivo and Andrés are the perfect duo through their common love of music. But when tragedy strikes shortly after Andrés receives a letter from the famous Marta Sandoval (Gloria Estefan), inviting her old partner to her farewell concert, it’s up to Vivo to deliver a message that Andrés never could. But to get to Marta, Vivo will need the help of Gabi (Ynairaly Simo) – an energetic tween who bounces to the beat of her own offbeat drum.

Vivo is the latest film by Oscar nominated director Kirk DeMarco and written by Quiara Alegria Hudes, with music composed by Alex Lacamoire, featuring the voice talents of Lin-Manuel Miranda, newcomer Ynairaly Simo, Juan de Marcos, Gloria Estefan, Zoe Saldaña, Michael Rooker, Brian Tyree Henry, Nicole Byer, Katie Lowes, Olivia Trujillo, and Lidya Jewett.

Uma has been reviewing things for most of his life: movies, television shows, books, video games, his mum's cooking, Bahir's fashion sense. He is a firm believer that the answer to most questions can be found within the cinematic canon. In fact, most of what he knows about life he learned from Ace Ventura: Pet Detective. He still hasn't forgiven Christopher Nolan for the travesties that are Interstellar and The Dark Knight Rises.
